Begonia Maculata (Polka Dot Begonia)
Pet Friendly: The plant is considered toxic to both cats and dogs.
Care: Large angel wing-shaped leaves with polka dots on top and a deep purple-red on the bottom. Fairly easy to care for, polka dot begonias thrive in bright, indirect light. They can tolerate lower light conditions but may grow much more slowly and likely will not flower. Keep out of direct, afternoon sun to avoid scorching the leaves.
Plant in a well-draining potting mix and water regularly. It does not like to saty dry for too long so keep the soil evenly moist by watering when the top inch of soil is dry. Water less often in the winter.
To encourage your polka dot begonia to flower, use a diluted liquid houseplant fertilizer every two weeks. This will encourage flowering and bigger leaves. Don't fertilize in the fall and winter.
Remove the flowers when they’re done blooming. This way your plant may flower again.
