At The Georgian, our work begins with expertise.
Patricia Stewart graduated from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 1980 and brings over 40 years of experience as an independent gemologist and appraiser. She specializes in vintage jewellery, estate purchasing, and insurance and probate appraisals.
Over the decades, Patricia has provided trusted services to jewellery stores, business owners, lawyers, and trust officers. She also led the jewellery department of a Toronto auction house for five years before relocating to Thornbury, where she continues to serve clients across Ontario.
As a family-run business, we combine gemological expertise with hands-on jewellery experience to help clients understand, preserve, and maximize the value of their fine jewellery.
Professional Jewellery Appraisals
Accurate evaluation is the foundation of every decision.
Patricia provides:
- Insurance appraisals
- Estate and probate appraisals
- Fair market valuations
- Vintage jewellery assessments
On-site appraisals are available while you wait for smaller quantities, and by appointment for larger collections.
Appraisal Fees
- $75 per item (written appraisal)
- $35 per item (verbal appraisal)
- 10% discount on 3 or more written items

Jewellery Evaluation & Consignment Policy
From Our Family to Yours
At The Georgian, we are built on trust, relationships, and transparency. My mom is our gemologist, I’m a jeweller, and together we take great care in helping clients understand their jewellery and choose the best path forward.
As our shop continues to grow, we’ve introduced simple guidelines to ensure every client and every piece receives the time and attention it deserves.
Complimentary Evaluation — Up to 3 Pieces
We are happy to offer a complimentary evaluation for up to three pieces of jewellery.
This gives you the opportunity to:
- Meet us
- Experience our process
- Understand current market positioning
There is no pressure and no obligation.
Larger Collections — 4 to 15 Pieces
For larger collections, we charge a modest evaluation fee to reflect the additional time required for careful inspection and research.
Evaluation Fee: $50–$150 (depending on size and complexity)
If you choose to consign or sell your jewellery with us, the full fee is credited toward your consignment.
If you decide not to proceed, the fee covers our time, research, and professional expertise. You are never paying twice for the same service.
Large Collections — 15+ Pieces
For collections of 15 or more pieces:
- Evaluations are done by appointment
- Jewellery must be left with us for proper assessment
- A detailed intake form and itemized receipt is provided
- Turnaround time: 3–5 business days
The same fee and credit structure applies. This ensures every item receives the care and attention it deserves.
Selling Options: Consignment, Auction, or Refinement
After evaluation, we guide you toward the most appropriate selling strategy.
Depending on condition, design, intrinsic value, and market demand, we may recommend:
- Retail consignment in our Thornbury shop
- Online jewellery auction through HiBid Canada
- Gold or silver refinement
Our role is not to push one method, but to determine which approach provides the strongest and most appropriate outcome for you.
All jewellery left in our care is fully insured.
Gold & Silver Buying
Do you have a single earring, broken chain, or pieces that are not practical to repair?
We purchase gold and silver based on current market pricing and fair valuation. Quotes are provided with zero obligation. Our calculations are transparent and there is never any pressure.
Jewellery Repairs
We offer professional repair services including:
- Ring resizing
- Solder repairs
- Chain repair
- Clasp repair
- Stone tightening
