Shell cameos have been prized since the Victorian era for their detailed hand-carved portraits and connection to classical art and mythology. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, cameo brooches and pendants had become enduring staples of women’s jewellery collections, often worn as both decorative accessories and sentimental keepsakes. Crafted from layered shell, each cameo was individually carved to reveal contrast between the figure and background, making every example slightly unique.
