Antique 14k yellow gold seed pearl and turquoise crescent and fly pin, circa 1900
Crescent moon jewellery was highly popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, symbolizing growth, femininity, and new beginnings. Seed pearls were frequently used to create soft, luminous designs, while turquoise accents added colour and were traditionally associated with protection and good fortune. Nature-inspired motifs, including insects and winged creatures, also became fashionable at the turn of the century as jewellery design shifted toward lighter, more delicate forms.
This antique 14k yellow gold pin, dating to circa 1900, features a crescent motif adorned with seed pearls alongside a finely detailed fly accented with turquoise. The combination of symbolic imagery and careful hand-finished detail reflects the craftsmanship associated with early 20th century jewellery, when small ornamental pins were worn on high collars, lapels, and bodices as part of everyday dress.
The crescent is set with seed pearls and the fly with turquoise, measuring 4 x 1.8 cm. weighing 2.7 grams. The fly is on a raised wire in the en tremblant effect.
