Antique Sterling Silver Repoussé Vanity Box

An elegant antique sterling silver vanity or trinket box featuring richly repoussé scroll and foliate decoration in a late Victorian to early Edwardian revival style.

The domed circular form is decorated throughout with deeply cast scrolling ornamentation surrounding a central cartouche, retaining its original oxidized background which highlights the intricate relief work. The underside is stamped “STERLING 2195½,” indicating sterling silver content along with the maker’s or pattern number.

Boxes of this type were commonly used during the late 19th and early 20th centuries for vanity tables, dressing tables, or as keepsake containers for jewelry, powders, pills, or small personal items. The elaborate repoussé decoration reflects the continued popularity of ornate silverwork during the transition from the Victorian into the Edwardian era.
